Company Profile

Established on 1 February 1991, the Melaka Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary (MBRS) stands as one of Malaysia’s most established and respected private zoological parks.

Located within 12 acres of tropical greenery in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, the Sanctuary is home to thousands of Malaysian butterflies, insects, and reptiles, including over 20 species of snakes and a highly endangered crocodile species safeguarded under its in-house conservation program.

For over three decades, MBRS has evolved from a local nature park into a recognized center for conservation, education, and research. The Sanctuary has produced an estimated 200,000 farm-bred butterflies annually, releasing many back into their natural habitats. This serves as a vital step in preserving Malaysia’s native butterfly populations that face threats from deforestation, pesticide use, and urban development.

MBRS holds the distinction of being the only institution in the world to successfully mass-breed the Malaysian Giant Tree Nymph (Idea lynceus), one of the largest and most graceful butterfly species in the region, known for its exquisite flight pattern.

This pioneering achievement was recognized by National Geographic (September 2019 edition), which featured the Sanctuary’s breeding success story as a model of scientific innovation and environmental dedication.

Beyond being a tourist destination, MBRS serves as a living classroom for students, researchers, and nature enthusiasts.
